Curling Veigar Review
Greetings all League fans! Today we have a review of a skin released on February 18, 2010 in honor of the 2010 Winter Games, Curling Veigar. Let’s take a look at what the biggest villain of the League of Legends universe did for the curling competition, and also break down the main unique features of the skin, whether it’s worth adding to your collection and, most importantly, how to get it in 2023. Get dressed warm, and I’ll get started on the review!
Lore
Veigar is probably the angriest character in all of League of Legends, but why has he transformed into Curling Veigar and why does he want a curling competition? Does he just want to join the party and compete or is this just another Veigar plan to conquer the universe? Who knows… All we’re watching right now is Veigar having fun and getting ready to perform on the ice, let’s wish him luck and ask him not to do evil at least today!
Concept and Inspiration
When creating Curling Veigar, the designers of Riot Games were inspired by the famous winter sport of curling. So Veigar has a broom instead of a staff, a sports T-shirt instead of a creepy outfit, and a desire to win in a fair competition of the strongest, not to conquer new worlds and bend new beggars to your will.
Design, Sound Effects and Animations
Curling Veigar has gotten a partially redesigned model and his weapons. Unfortunately, like almost all of the early Curling Veigar skins, Veigar can’t boast new sounds and animations, and is trying to win the hearts of players solely due to his appearance and unprecedented charisma.
Unique Features
Curling Veigar’s biggest draw? It seriously shakes up that signature look: His eyes get rounder and cartoonier, like a tiny, mischievous wizard itching to hit the curling rink. His tracksuit, metal gloves and shoes – are spruced up with a bold patterned wizard hat. The star of this ensemble, though – his staff-turned-broom – no question. But all in all it falls short; there’s something missing that would give this skin real oomph. You’re left looking at it feeling ‘meh’, when what you really crave is something that can make you go ‘wow’! Veigar may have the same animations, sounds and particles as before, but his new model changes make this skin a must-have addition to any skin collection. His hat is striped with tiny yellow accents that really help him stand out, and his robes have been switched from their regular purple hue to a wintery blue – it completes the look! But get this: instead of holding its mighty staff like before, Veigar now rocks a curling broom. Yep – it’s all about that broom life for our little champ. That small change manages to capture the theme perfectly… now we can curl up with victory! Curling Veigar stands out from the rest of Veigar’s skins with super subtle yet power-packed changes that take the whole vibe to a new level. The look: a techy tracksuit, some shiny metal gloves and shoes, plus the wizard hat – it conjures up images of an itty bitty wizard ready for a curling match! Sure, there aren’t any added animations or sounds.
Obtainability in 2023
Unfortunately it’s not possible to buy the Curling Veigar right now, as it is one of the many rare skins in the Legacy Vault, which is only available in conjunction with special events. You will have to wait for the vault to reopen and then you can purchase it for 520 Riot Points, or you can buy a Curling Veigar account from the SmurfMania.com store if you don’t want to wait.
Gamers Feedback
“Janitor Veigar best skin.”
“I want this skin so badly, plz Riot, make this avaible to purchase again T.T.”
“One of the worst skins ever.”
“Laziest skin i’ve ever seen.”
“Got this from a chest. I don’t really care about model/effects, I care about splash arts, and this is one of my favorites in the whole game.”
“This skin is one of the worst in the game, it’s basically a default Veigar chroma, and I just got it from destroying 3 perfect shards :'(“
As you can see from the reviews above, LoL community did not like this skin, many note that Curling Veigar is more of a chroma version of the standard skin, rather than a new one. Its external changes are minimal, but there’re players who like his splash art.
My Feedback
Curling Veigar is so bad it’s even good! There are skins that players dislike so much that I get the urge to get that skin at all costs and yes, Curling Veigar is in my inventory. When considering skins from an investment perspective, Curling Veigar is a good candidate for the collection, because I remember exactly what happened with The Alpine Stalker’s Set in Dota 2. The skin was so bad that so few people bought it, and then it was removed from the site and its price went up incredibly, so this is your chance to invest a few bucks.
Conclusion and Rating
I can’t say that Curling Veigar will give you an unforgettable experience playing on Rift, the skin is purely for fun, investment and for the feeling of being a part of the League of Legends development history, but if you’re not one of those fans, but I won’t recommend it for purchase. I give this skin a score of 3 out of 10, but I’ll gladly change it when it costs as much as Black Alistar, ha-ha.
