The purpose of our journey is the other side of the wondrous world of Arcadia, the world of Battle Bosses, and we’ll begin this journey with Battle Boss Blitzcrank, released August 19, 2015.

Battle Boss Blitzcrank has got an incredibly colorful arcade theme that makes it really cool. He looks like the robot from the sci-fi games of our childhood, with a crushing punch and weird monotonous movements. Veigar, the lord of evil, has made Battle Boss Blitzcrank the guardian of his halls… Well, no one is likely to get past Blitzcrank’s cold mind. In the splash art you can follow Blitzcrank in the character selection menu of the 8-bit fighting game. He is opposed by Arcade Riven, who is also very strong. It would have been interesting to see them fight, because they are equal opponents in strength, and it would have been an incredible battle. The champion’s model has been redesigned, so Blitzcrank is hard to recognize. In the game Battle Boss Blitzcrank looks like a robot, painted green and purple. One of his arms is turned into a mechanical claw to crush enemies. He also has no legs; instead, Blitzcrank moves on a metal spinning sphere. His eyes now glow and an antenna protrudes from his head. Overall, the old-school visual style of the skin will definitely not leave fans of arcade games indifferent. However, the overly pretty coloring and the cartridge hole, gives the impression that he is a toy robot.

Concept and Inspiration

Battle Boss Blitzcrank is part of the Battle Boss collection, the antagonists of the Arcade series heroes. Like the Arcade series, Battle Boss Blitzcrank was inspired by the 8-bit arcade games of the past. In this skin, I found a reference to Dr. Eggman’s machine, namely the Phantom King from the Sonic universe. Now Battle Boss Blitzcrank is a formidable boss of the game world and only a handful of heroes will be able to defeat him.

Design, Sound Effects, and Animations

The developers, besides changing the skin textures, also added brand new particles and sounds. All of the particles now refer back to the pixel art of the arcade. For example, auto-attacks are accompanied by small pixel explosions. The sounds are also carried over from the 8-bit version, and you’ll immediately recognize those simple squeaks, the Wookiee beats. The recall and movement animation has also been changed. During the recall, Battle Boss Blitzkrank pulls a cartridge out of his back. It is not very functional, and Blitzkrank inserts and hits the cartridge several times before teleporting. Another great recommendation. Rocket Grab has a unique design compared to other skins. The champion still pulls the claw, only now the purple lightning also strikes the enemy. Sparkling fists, energy bursts swirling around them – apparently, that’s how energy is concentrated.
